Arose from the Concrete
In 2009, I was involved in the movie Harry Brown, filmed in Elephant and Castle’s Heygate Estate. I was amazed to discover, in this apparent barren wasteland, the crew had received a call from a disgruntled resident, complaining about the noise. I set upon a fascinating journey of research into the history of this estate. This book, through typographical experimentation, photography and visual grammar, discovers the roots of the Heygate, from Piet Mondrian and Le Corbusier, through to its current state of regeneration. It is a graphic rediscovery of the circle within the square.
