Very Now exhibition
part of the LCC Festival of Journalism and Art

Background: The centrepiece of the LCC Festival of Journalism and Art, the Very Now exhibition (11 July-12 August 2016) explored the relationship between art and journalism. The exhibition featured work by UAL students alongside pieces from David Birkin, Jeremy Deller, Laura El-Tantawy, Peter Kennard and Cat Phillipps, Broomberg and Chanarin, Lewis Bush and Edmund Clark. I was asked to create a visual identity for this show that would work across all platforms and materials.

Approach: Much of the content of the show was very serious and put into focus the dark side of human nature. The visuals needed to be suitably sincere to sit alongside this material. The cover image for the exhibition represented the tone accurately and it was from this, I chose the black and white palette and the stark uppercase typeface. I thought to include the VERY NOW within a square frame to represent the idea of putting the subject matter in clear focus.
